Mother’s Day 2027 and 2028
Most people in South Africa observe Mother’s Day on the second Sunday of May despite that fact that it is not an official holiday here. South Africans place a high value on motherhood and on family life in general, and that tends to make Mother’s Day a fairly big event for many South Africans.
In 2027, Mother’s Day falls on Sunday 9 May. The observance will be on Sunday 14 May in 2028.

It is traditional for mothers to wear either a red or pink carnation, while someone else may wear a white carnation for a mother who has passed away. Younger kids usually make homemade gifts for Mum, while older children tend to buy a gift, flower, or card at a store.
The idea of Mother’s Day began in the USA in 1872 as the brainchild of Julia Ward Howe. It was originally associated with a pacifist movement, but over the years, it took on its modern look and feel and spread the world over!
